The island's water company is the oldest registered company in Jersey. It was first set up in 1863 as the Jersey Waterworks company but went bankrupt in 1874.

The Jersey New Waterworks Company came into existence in 1882. It remained with this name until late 2004 when it became simply Jersey Water.

The island's government, the States, owns 74 per cent of the company. Up until 1981 it had been privately owned.

Jersey Water is the third largest landowner in the island and supplies mains water to 90% of the population

Jersey Water

Whilst there are no rivers in Jersey and scarcely any streams, there are stretches of still water that hold surprisingly good stocks of fish.
