Association Trip in the UK

Six Association members enjoyed a superb weekend's fishing in early October around the Hampshire area, based in Andover.

There was a full itinerary including sessions on a Commercial Fishery, a private stretch of the River Kennet (Barton Court), a Trout & Salmon run on the Lower Itchen (miles from nowhere and yet right next to Southampton Airport !) the Old Mill and Avington (Big Trout) Fishery.

In all 14 different species of freshwater fish were caught during the 3 days including river Pike to 15lbs at Barton Court plus numerous Brownies, Grayling, Dace and Barbel best a 7lb 8oz fish from the Weirpool on the Lower Itchen, Common & Mirror Carp from the Commercial Fishery and Rainbows up 7lb at Avington.  Check out the Gallery for the latest photographs.

It was funpacked weekend with such a variety of fishing available and all the waters were within 45 minutes of Southampton Airport which kept the travelling time down to a minimum.

Next year's trip is already being discussed and more information will be provided at next year's AGM coming up in January.

The final winter league match took place on Sunday and with good weather we all expected some good catches but that was not to be and only 3 people caught.  Winner on the day was Dave Wood 5oz 8drms, Second Jim Roberts 2oz  & Third Shaun Rankin 1oz

Overall Team Standings -  1st Mel's Team 52 Points, 2nd Dave’s Team 46 Points, 3rd Carl’s Team 31 Points, 4th Eddie’s Team 28 Points.

Fly Fishing New Season 2011

What a start to the new season at Queen’s Valley! With well over five thousand rainbow and brown trout now installed in there, the fly fishing is spectacular. There have been reports of 7lb brown trout, 7lb plus rainbow trout, even a nigh-on 3lb perch. Catch returns of over thirty in one session, I’ve been down there and lost count of the brownies I returned. It’s nice also to see most people are returning the big ones as they are virtually cormorant proof and we won’t be getting any quite like this for some time. Bearing in mind the fisheries in England, where you’re paying £70 plus for just ONE DAY, this is an absolute bargain. There are still odd/even season tickets, double tickets, day tickets, weekly tickets… WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?

Tight lines.  Richard Emery  Trout rep.  JFAA
